2006 Annual Quarter Peal Report

The 2006 records are a summary of published 2006 quarter peals rung within the boundaries of the KCACR up to the 31st December. Primary sources are Campanophile and The Ringing World. I am particularly grateful to all those who sent quarter peals direct to me at the end of the year to ensure inclusion in the next edition of the Report and Handbook.
A total of 733 quarter peals have been recorded within the county during 2006, a small decrease on the total for 2005. Ashford and Canterbury show marginal increases, while Rochester is up by 20 per cent. Maidstone is slightly down and Lewisham and Tonbridge are down by 10 and 22 per cent respectively. Canterbury retains the crown as the leading quarter peal District, followed by Ashford, which had the highest percentage of towers ringing at least one quarter. It is also most encouraging to see that 30 people rang their first quarter peal during 2006 - a notable increase on previous years. Congratulations to all those concerned and indeed their teachers!
Ashford is again the leading tower for the 5th year running with 47 quarter peals recorded. In second place is High Halden on 34, closely followed by Leeds on 29. Mark Chittenden-Pile is again the leading conductor with 51, followed by Darren Elphick on 45. Handbell quarters are again included in the analysis with 17 recorded during the past 12 months. This represents a significant downturn, but it is pleasing to see that a new handbell quarter peal centre has emerged in Beckenham. Special congratulations are due to Karen Edwards who rang her 1000th quarter peal at Wittersham on the 7th January 2006. |
