Added at 09:44 1st October 2009 by Anthony Leeves |
588 quarter peals were recorded to the end of September, a little down on last year's 601. Canterbury District towers recorded the most - 180 in 31 towers (2008 was 184 in 34 towers). Maidstone District again has the highest average number per tower with 4.0 (3.6 in 2008), while the Ashford District has the highest percentage of ringable towers recording a quarter peal at 62% (last year the Tonbridge District led with 73%).
Maidstone All Saints and Aylesford continue to be the leading towers with 38 and 33 respectively (last year they were tied at 32). Darren Elphick leads the list of conductors with 51, well ahead of Mike Little (34) and Daniel Brady (31).
A good number of first quarter peals was recorded in July to September bringing the total for the year to 23 (last year's figure was 15). The Ashford District has recorded the most first quarter peals with 8, all rung in June to September. Disappointingly, there has still only been one first as conductor this year.
The first quarter peal on the augmented bells at Newnham was recorded. |
