414 quarter peals have been recorded for the first six months of 2010, just 3 up on the same period last year. Canterbury District as usual has recorded the greatest number (110). The Lewisham District leads on all other counts with quarter peals in 29 (91%) of its towers, an average of 2.8 quarter peals per tower - these included a successful quarter peal week and quarter peals rung in memory of Margaret Macey.
High Halden is the leading tower with 18, followed by Aylesford with 16. Richard Edwards and David Macey lead the list of conductors with 34, ahead of Darren Elphick with 31.
17 people recorded their first quarter peal. 9 of these were in the Lewisham District, 8 of them during their successful quarter peal week. There was just one new conductor - Benjamin Legg in the Canterbury District.
The Canterbury District handbell group rang a quarter peal of Stedman Caters and quarter peals of Surprise Major, while the Hadlow team added Single Oxford to their repertoire. The Charmborough Ring was again set up in Charlton and a quarter peal was rung on it during the London Marathon. A Lewisham District band rang a quarter peal of Bristol Surprise Maximus during their quarter peal week - not recorded here as it was rung at St. Magnus the Martyr, London. |
