2010 Annual Quarter Peal Report
Added at 14:44 21st February 2011 by Anthony Leeves |
874 quarter peals were recorded within the Association area in 2010, just 6 fewer than in 2009. The Lewisham District had an exceptional year, helped by a successful quarter peal week in February, and recorded a 62% increase on 2009. The Lewisham District also had quarter peals in all of its quarter pealable towers (Wilmington bells are ringable, but only for short periods) and the average number of quarter peals per tower in the Lewisham District was 5.3. Only the Canterbury District recorded more quarter peals than the Lewisham District. Ashford District recorded the same number of quarter peals as in 2009, Rochester and Tonbridge Districts had small increases while Canterbury and Maidstone recorded fewer quarter peals. Congratulations to the 38 ringers who rang their first quarter peal (39 in 2009). 14 of these were in the Lewisham District including 5 at Eltham. Congratulations also to the 3 firsts as conductor (the same number as in 2009). Alan Bourner recorded his 1,000th quarter peal while Ruth and Donald Niblett recorded their 1,000th together. Faversham (45 Bramley Avenue) was the leading "tower" with 37, closely followed by High Halden with 36. David Macey was the leading conductor with 66, well ahead of Darren Elphick's 51. There were 99 conductors in 2010, a considerable drop from 124 in 2009. There were 46 handbell quarter peals (38 in 2009). The Trafford Ring was in evidence at Headcorn, Smarden, and Tunstall while the Charmborough Ring had 6 quarter peals in the Association area, 5 of which were at Tenterden for Richard Edwards' 40th birthday celebrations. One date touch was rung and there were three other lengths of over 2000 changes. The Faversham handbell band added Stedman Caters to its achievements and rang 9 quarter peals of Surprise Major. I would like to thank District Secretaries for sending out lists of quarter peals rung and requesting that details of any errors or omissions be sent to me, and I thank all ringers who have helped resolve queries on quarter peal details. |
