2015 Annual Quarter Peal Report

978 quarter peals were recorded within the Association area in 2015 (952 in 2014). Events for which quarter peals were rung included St George's Day, the birth of Princess Charlotte, the Queen becoming the longest reigning British monarch, the reburial of Richard III, the 50th anniversary of the death of Winston Churchill, the 70th anniversary of VE Day and VJ Day, the 75th anniversary of Dunkirk, the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo, the 300th anniversary of the first peal, the 600th anniversary of the Battle of Agincourt, and the 800th anniversary of Magna Carta. Quarter peals continue to be rung in memory of individual ringers who died in the first World War and quarter peals were also rung in memory of ringers who died in 2015 including Alan Bourne, Frank Lewis, Eileen Palin, and Elizabeth Todd. The victims of the terrorist attacks in Paris were remembered in quarter peals. Quarter peals rung for wedding anniversaries included Tim and Diana Wraight's (Golden Wedding), and Nick and Janice Byrne's and Philip and Cathryn Hills' (Silver Wedding).
The first quarter peals since the augmentations at Broomfield and Monkton were rung.
Birchington (All Saints) is again the leading tower with 76 quarter peals in 2015 in many different Doubles variations including naming several variations not previously rung. Mike Little was the leading conductor, calling 89 quarter peals. Rupert Cheeseman, Daniel Brady and Mark Chittenden-Pile each called more than 50 quarter peals. The Canterbury District had the highest number of quarter peals and the highest average per tower while the Ashford District had the highest percentage of its ringable towers recording a quarter peal.
Congratulations to the 38 ringers who rang their first quarter peal (31 in 2014). Congratulations also to the seven firsts as conductor, and particular congratulations to Matthew Jerome who rang his first quarter peal in January and his first as conductor in August.
Diana Wraight rang her 1,500th quarter peal, Stephen Davis his 1,000th, and Mike Little his 1,000th as conductor.
There were 138 conductors in 2015 (the same as in 2014). Three handbell quarter peals were rung (5 in 2014).
Longer lengths rung were one half peal, two 2015 date touches, and one other date touch (1965) relating to a 50th birthday.
