KCACR Quarter Peals Record

2012 Annual Quarter Peal Report

Added at 20:24 15th February 2013 by Anthony Leeves
925 quarter peals were recorded within the Association area in 2012. This is 127 fewer than in 2011, but nevertheless the third highest number in a year since these records were started in 1998. 133 were rung in the quarter peal week for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee and the Association is grateful to MRFS for arranging the submission of these to the Ringing World. Birchington (All Saints) is again the leading tower with 71 quarter peals in 2012. Their band is to be congratulated on ringing quarter peals in 53 different Doubles methods or variations (including one silent and unconducted) as well as 10 multi method Doubles quarter peals. Mike Little was again the leading conductor, calling 85 quarters, followed by Mark Chittenden-Pile with 77. Most Districts recorded fewer quarter peals than in 2011, the exceptions being the Lewisham District (+2) and the Tonbridge District (+6). The Canterbury District had the highest number of quarter peals, but the Ashford District had the highest average per tower and the highest percentage of ringable towers recording a quarter peal (91%).

Congratulations to the 50 ringers who rang their first quarter peal, the highest number since 2002. Eight of these were at Burmarsh (mostly rung for the Romney Marsh & District Guild), six at Farnborough, and six at Marden. Congratulations also to the 3 firsts as conductor (including Daniel Lavender who rang his first quarter peal and his first as conductor during the year).

Significant milestones were achieved by Richard Young (1,000th quarter peal) and by Clare and Philip Larter (1,000th quarter peal together). Philip, Cathryn, Andrew & Susan Hills rang their 100th quarter peal together.

There were 133 conductors in 2012 (140 in 2011). 46 handbell quarter peals were rung (47 in 2011). There was one quarter peal on the Trafford Ring at Harty. The first quarter peal on the new ring at Farnborough was recorded, and the first on the augmented ring at Otham.

Two 2012 date touches were rung and one date touch of 1952 for the Queen's Diamond Jubilee.
